Nicole was honored last night at the AACTA International Awards. She walked the red carpet with Keith and looked gorgeous in a black gown by Rochas from their Spring 2017 line.

During her acceptance speech for best supporting actress she recognized her husband Keith Urban, “And to the most beautiful man I’ve ever met, Keith Lionel Urban. He’s got a gypsy heart, and travels the world where I go. ‘We’re going to Tasmania to make a film!’ And he’s like, ‘OK…’”

Entertainment Weekly gives us a look at the new HBO series Big Little Lies starring Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, & Shailene Woodley.

It began with a manuscript. In 2014, a friend slipped Reese Witherspoon an early galley of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies. The Australian author has a knack for spinning a compelling tale — her previous book, The Husband’s Secret, had hit No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list a year earlier — and this one was no exception.

“Liane’s writing is so enthralling, I was hanging on every word. I read it in one night,” says Witherspoon of the story of a wealthy seaside enclave where not everything is as perfect as it seems and the combined community secrets lead to a mysterious murder.

Her producing partner, Bruna Papandrea, called Nicole Kidman — a longtime friend since the women were teenagers — and said simply: “I’ve found the thing for us all to do together.” Kidman (who also read the book in a single sitting) happened to be leaving the next day for Australia, and while there she met Moriarty for coffee. “I said to her, ‘If you give us the rights to the book, we can get it made,’” says Kidman.

Within 18 months, a staggering number of A-listers were heading into production. Witherspoon and Kidman were joined by Shailene Woodley in the lead roles, with Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, and Adam Scott also in the cast. David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) signed on as an executive producer and wrote all seven episodes. Jean-Marc Vallée — fresh off his Oscar-nominated film Wild — agreed to direct every installment, too. (He’d been planning to direct only the pilot but had a hard time saying no to his Wild leading lady. “This is all Reese’s fault,” he says with a laugh. “I was about to take a vacation, and I was so tired. But then I read it, and I couldn’t abandon it after I started.”)

All that talent shows: The series has its fair share of humor and dark drama — and then even darker drama — yet the actresses never miss a step. “I sometimes felt like I was watching a class in acting,” says Witherspoon of her costars.

Big Little Lies premieres on Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

W Magazine highlighted some of the best performances of the year in their new issue and one of the covers featured Nicole & actor Mahershala Ali.

What was your favorite birthday?
When I turned 40, my husband, Keith [Urban], drove me up to the top of this small hill in Australia and sat me down. He had put together this huge fireworks display. It was just for the two of us! It was sexy.

What is your pet peeve?
When people say they will do something and they don’t. And I know it’s terribly demanding, but I don’t like it when my husband doesn’t answer his phone. I have to keep calling and calling, and I get anxious. Does that make me high-maintenance?

What movie has made you cry?
Last year I saw Room, and I was absolutely devastated by it. I’m raw as I get older. I have to be careful what I let in.

Where was your first kiss?
This is crazy: We were playing hooky from school. I had my first kiss while watching The Shining. Is that not weird? And we did a few things other than kiss too! I didn’t see a lot of the movie.

This week, Nicole Kidman returned to the Palm Springs International Film Festival for the first time since her father’s death.

“Last time I was here, I was making a lot of movies and I was single,” Kidman told ET, acknowledging that it’s been 12 years since she walked the PSIFF red carpet. “I was here with my dad last time, and I have photos walking up the red carpet with my dad, holding his hand.”

Dr. Antony Kidman — a clinical psychologist at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia — died unexpectedly in September 2014 after he fell while on vacation in Singapore.

ET was with the Oscar winner and her father when they attended the PSIFF in 2005. That year, Nicole was presented with the organization’s highest honor, the Chairman’s Award, and Antony was clearly pleased with his daughter’s accomplishments.

“I’m very proud,” he told ET, adding that the distinction was “well deserved.”

“Unbelievable that was 12 years ago,” Nicole said after watching ET’s flashback footage. “But I’ve also found love and I have a family and grown a family. I have four children now. Amazing things have happened to me in the past 12 years.”

The 49-year-old actress married her current husband, Keith Urban, in 2006. The couple are parents to 8-year-old daughter Sunday and 6-year-old daughter Faith, but Nicole also has a daughter (Isabella, 24) and an adopted son (Connor, 21) from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

Kidman credited her family, especially Urban, with helping her through the grieving process after her father’s death.

“I had a husband that came right back,” she told CBS last month. “I called him screaming and crying. And he was about to go onstage. And he walked offstage and he got on a plane — he had just gotten there… He literally picked me up and pretty much carried me through the next two weeks.”

“I had my children going, ‘It’s gonna be all right, Momma,'” Kidman added.

Kidman also told ET that losing her father gave her a clearer perspective on her priorities.

“I reevaluated what I wanted out of life, and I got a real life, if that makes sense,” she said.

On Monday, Kidman’s Lion co-star, Dev Patel, presented her with the International Star Award.

The Big Little Lies actress collected her prize after ringing in the New Year onstage with her husband on Saturday.

“He was like, ‘Come on, baby. I want you to come out and dance around or sing with me,'” Kidman said of their Nashville performance. “On the spur of the moment I was like, ‘All right! I’ll go!’ So I sort of ran out onstage dancing around.”

Kidman already has plenty to dance about in 2017. Her Lion performance has garnered critical acclaim and plenty of awards show attention.

In the film, she plays Sue Brierley, a woman who — along with her husband, John Brierley (David Wenham) — adopts a young boy lost in Calcutta named Saroo (Patel). When Saroo grows up, he begins a search to find the family he disappeared from as a child.

As an adoptive mother, the story hit close to home.

“I think I really connect with Sue,” Kidman told ET. “When particular roles come along at particular times and they align directly with your own personal feelings then it’s sort of like you just give over to it. It’s almost like you just step out of the way and let everything else do the work.”

Earlier this week, stars lined the red carpet at the 2017 Palm Springs International Film Festival. Nicole Kidman, among those in attendance, spoke to E! News’ Marc Malkin on the red carpet about celebrating New Year’s Eve over the weekend.

Kidman rang in the New Year in Nashville with her children, as husband Keith Urban was performing that night. Urban brought his wife on stage to pay their respects to many of the musical greats that passed away in 2016. “I wanted to do that, for him—to support my hubby, and also support those artists who we lost in 2016,” she told E! News.

Urban’s performance, which aired on CNN, paid homage to Leonard Cohen, The Eagles, Merle Haggard and Prince.

While Urban and Kidman continue to make headlines, another member of the family may have scored their breakout role: Sunday Rose is the newest star of the family, as she recently landed her first acting gig.

Kidman told E! News that the focus has shifted in their family. Asked if she had her dress ready Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, Kidman replied that her dress was already picked out because of a pressing matter at hand. “My daughter just got cast in her school play,” she explained, “so, that’s been the main priority, learning lines with her.”
Sunday seems to be quite dedicated to her new role, as Kidman said she overheard her daughter telling her father, “You’ve got to get off the phone, and help me with my lines, dad.”

Kidman, who will also be presenting, is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, category for her role in Lion.

The 2017 Golden Globes will air live Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
